mitte der neunziger setzte sich terry lee brown jr. alias norman feller an eine symbiose aus techno und house, zwei damals sich eher gegeneinander ausspielende genres. heute ist tech-house dank deutscher labels wie pokerflat, perlon oder plastic city allgegenwärtig und hat selbst dem minimal-hype der letzten jahre standgehalten. mit letzterem label ist terry lee brown jr. eng verbunden. ein großer teil seiner langen diskografie wurde dort veröffentlicht. drei alben, unzählige dj-gigs, unzählige remixe, eine eigene dj-mix-cd-serie und immer wieder auch ausflüge in trance-, downbeat- oder breakbeat-gefilde – es ist eine erfolggeschichte. sein viertes album „karambolage“ ist das erste seit sechs jahren. gewohnt sicher und feingliedrig geht mr. brown ans werk. da sitzt jeder beat, da werden saubere melodien eingewoben und die balance zwischen musikalität und funktionalität ausgelotet. zum album erschien ebenfalls eine limitierte 7“ mit einem „karambolage-edit“, einem stück, das die fixpunkte des albums in einem ganzen verschmilzt. doch keine bange, es handelt sich nicht um einen liebloses medley. die edit-version ist ein ganzer track, der den status quo von terry lee brown jr. beleuchtet.

he’s back in the kitchen… after a summer of endless touring – including the illustrious position as one of the final djs to ever play space terrace – madrid-based garcia has returned to his flavour lab to cook up a whole new wealth of grooves and the future is looking tasty. last spotted on pets in 2013 - and since serving up styles on some of the most respected labels in techno – pokerflat, freerange, darkroom, perspectiv and supplement facts - garcia provides two quintessential winter warmers.

it is very difficult to present david duriez without writing an encyclopedic tome as its influence on the house music in france was decisive. since its inception in 1992, david released over a hundred records under his name, tens under various pseudonyms, mainly on vinyls on the most renowned labels like 2020vision, ovum, systematic, pokerflat, f communication, under the counter, stickman, crosstown rebels, the end, etc .. (the list is long, see discogs.com to be convinced) and as many remixes for some of the greatest artists (think moby, dj sneak, gemini, dj hell, llorca, telex, random factor, johnny fiasco, paul johnson, jori hulkkonen, ralph lawson, random factor, kenny hawkes or mr.c). founder of the label brique rouge and a whole galaxy of other labels, he participated in the creation of internationally recognized labels such as robsoul with phil weeks, freak n chic with dan ghenacia (from apollonia) or rz muzik. at a time when david had federated online the cream of the house producers via a forum (far and long before social networks), ivan smagghe had nicknamed him -the producer of the producers.- , a true house music activist, but most of all david duriez is a devastating dancefloor dj, he did several tours around the world and played in some of the biggest clubs in the world between 1995 and 2010. truly one of the most important players in the french electro scene, david is back on tracks after a few years hyatus. but don t call it a comeback because he has never really gone awol, he has been watching the scene and now he s back in the studio. you can expect a (very) long serie of releases for 2016, you have been warned!

nobody can deny the fact that vilnius in lithuania is currently a very creative and agile place. first and foremost mario basanov of course, whose ten walls moniker swept the board last year and whose hype seems to have only just started. his popularity was heightened by the start of his own label boso. it took off with the highly praised -walking with elephants-, which was already one of the biggest tunes of this summer, before it even came out. the second release is by few nolder, another highly talented native from vilnius, who showed frst signs of life on connaisseur with his lovely tune -space espace- on our last edition of livingroom techno as well as with his remix for -canto d amore- by marco effe & francesco carone. -clouds- is the name of his boso release, and it looks to be the next big thing for this young label. for his frst own release on connaisseur he delivered -if-.the fact that it is different from his other output is why we have decided to present this tune in two versions as a 10- vinyl-only single. the original is a summerish and catchy house cut with a bouncy bassline and a slightly uk-approach.this tune makes you move without there being much you can do about it. the alt version goes deeper, building up with a question/answer theme until a strong, driving piano element joins to complete the track. lovers of older pokerflat releases will truly enjoy this version.

german techhouse producer marco riemann is back on imola-music with*klangzeit*, cooperation with internationally known producer someone else! after two releases on steve bugs pokerflat, *klangzeit* is now marcos latest releases on his own label imola-music which he manages together with the cologne producer jens zimmermann. all tracks on *klangzeit* are straight forward minimal-/techhouse stuff which are clearly oriented to clubs peaktime. the beats and hooklines are stripped down to the minimal bones which sucks you into its groove from the first kick drum beat.

alex flatners (get physical, circle music, pokerflat) vinyl debut for noir is a collabo with msms and singer cari golden. real house music with remixes from emerson todd (saved, upon you), paolo rocco and fabio giannelli.

kyodai have had a strong run of releases since their debut here on freerange last year. their mi rumba ep must have impressed a lot of people as they went on to release a follow up ep for mad mats blossoming local talk label and also have an ep due on pokerflat in the coming weeks. kerri chandler dug it enough to include on his ra podcast and it was also picked up for the cielo compilation on nervous. la luz kicks off this release with a brazilian rhythm known as candomblé laying the foundation of the groove.

matthias heilbronn is one of new yorks best and best-known dj/producers, and an international name in his own right. hes had worldwide house hits, including the massive its gonna be alright under the name deep zone in the mid-90s and more recently do it right on pokerflat, scooped a string of awards for his djing, production and editing, and is one half of m&j with dj joeski

one of the stand out moments and most in demand club tracks from the simon baker >traces< album returns in remixed form, alongside the vinyl edit of simons original. its taken us a while to get pokerflat head honcho and all round german house music legend steve bug on board for a remix, but its worth the wait as he delivers a lesson in refined, deep house music. next up burnski and robert james deliver a mammoth, hypnotic jam that twists and turns for 10 minutes and still leaves you wanting more.

das zodiak free arts lab, auch bekannt als zodiak club, war eine temporäre gleichwohl sehr einflussreiche location für experimentelle live musik ende der 1960er. von kreuzberger künstlern 1967 im damaligen west berlin gegründet, war das zodiak free arts lab für eine weile ein wahres paradies für musiker, denn das laboratorium war ausgestattet mit instrumenten, verstärkern und lautsprechern, mit denen jeder ganz nach lust und laune spielen und experimentieren durfte.
vier jahrzehnte später hatte argy die idee, das konzept des clubs wieder zu beleben. argy ist einer der wenigen produzenten, die dieser tage einen völlig eigenen dance music sound kreieren, wie man an solch großartigen eps wie >love dose< (auf pokerflat inc. erschienen) hören kann oder bei seinen remixen für ibadan und defected und natürlich auch bei all den anderen vielzähligen projekten, in die er involviert ist. anschließend an den zodiak club der 60er hat argy für einen kurzen zeitraum seine eigenen privaten räumlichkeiten in berlin geöffnet um mit kollegen und freunden zu jamen. argy konzentrierte sich jedoch nicht nur auf musik-experimente, sondern lud seine gäste ein mit ihm gemeinsam an einer reihe von happenings teilzunehmen, wie zum beispiel an live musik sessions, abendessen, der gemeinsamen erfahrung der vielen facetten von schönheit, konversationen und allerlei anderen bizarren oder exzentrischen erlebnissen.

manuel tur has been making some great music recently, whether it be as one half of the ribn project with partner langenberg, on numerous remixes alongside dplay or solo on a variety of labels such as mild pitch, pokerflat, freerange, mule music, drumpoet and now delusions of grandeur. fianchetto opts for a dark, spaced-out and deeply hypnotic vibe full of warm, subby disco beats, shimmering rhodes and echoing horns. a masterful production from manuel that is loaded with atmosphere and sounds mighty on a big system. next up we have beasts and the birds which goes for a heavy looped up disco approach full of raw detroit sensibilities and attitude. finally, tim toh (much respected and sickeningly young german producer releasing on soulphiction’s philpot label) stretches out beasts and the birds into a 9 minute journey into abstract dance. once again, we’re talking unrefined, no compromise house music here, the likes of which you won’t be hearing on an mos compilation anytime soon

eijajei - aye ya yay! this is a hit record! but what else would you expect when two of berlins hottest dj and producers, guido schneider and jens bond, are working together!? following the duos major success on pokerflat in 2004, we have managed to get the two of them back together for this exclusive release on highgrade. the results are well worth it. >getting sleepy< pulls us comfortably into the musical world of jens bond and guido schneider. without being obvious, and certainly not lazy, the track reclines into a laid back groove that hooks straight into the rhythm, creating a perfect atmosphere for the psychedelic vocals and hypnotic groove. you wont be able to escape the mood, making this the perfect techno weapon for the late night hours. we like! >eijeijei< is the highlight of the record: warm drums, siren like vocals, the whole thing seems to come from a long way away with incredibly smooth beats which make this track so special. maybe this is the sound of a table dance bar in the jungle? its incredibly sexy in any case

2009 is quite obviously sven tasnadis year, having already released five eps this year on cream-of-the-crop labels like pokerflat, ornaments and liebe*detail. each ep revealed a new facet of the leipziger, riding the nuances between the 4/4 beat. after his ep >down under influence< with juno6 in spring 2009, tasnadi now dishes up his new solo ep on cargo edition. >what we do< is a classic housetrack - very deep and peppered with vocal shots that hold the tension of the track over its whole length. it s smooth, yet deliciously rough around the edges. >amour fou< on the b-side surprises with a very compact rhythm - around the driving bass drum fly percussive elements, all tied together by a reduced bassline, some interspersed vocal samples and deep chords.
